Key Points

  • Update 4 pre-release adds emote wheel and creative mode tweaks.

  • Pokemon and Stardew Valley mods are getting serious attention from gaming press.

  • Simon clarified that many quality-of-life changes might be temporary as systems evolve.

  • Oscar Garvin's soundtrack is now on streaming platforms and available as lossless downloads.

Another week, another wave of updates and community chaos. No official blog posts from Hypixel Studios this week, but Update 4's pre-release dropped some genuinely fun stuff. Emotes are here, mods keep getting wilder, and the team's still figuring out what stays and what goes.

Update 4 Pre-Release: Emotes and Creative Mode

Simon dropped the Update 4 Part 2 patch notes on February 26th. The big addition? An emote wheel. Hold X (rebindable) and you can express yourself in-game. Creative mode also got some love with unspecified changes.

Kweebec Corner was predictably excited about the chicken emote specifically. Because of course there's a chicken emote.

MewSoul jumped on it immediately with a breakdown of how easy it is to add custom emotes via mods. Drop your animation file in the right folder, add an icon, and you're done. The mod support here is impressively straightforward.

Simon also teased Part 3 for next week with a cryptic sound-on-sound-off emoji combo. Audio updates? New ambience? Your guess is as good as mine.

Features Might Be Temporary

Here's where things get interesting. Simon posted a thread explaining that many of the quality-of-life improvements shipping now might not stick around long-term. The team is prioritizing quick wins to solve immediate pain points, even when they know the feature will change later.

He used infinite water as an example. Filling ponds bucket by bucket is tedious, so they'll probably add infinite water soon. But water might become a meaningful resource in future systems, which would make infinite water irrelevant or contradictory.

"The way you play today is going to look very different a year from now."

Fair warning. Early access means exactly this kind of flux. PCGamesN covered the studio's warning that players shouldn't get too attached to current mechanics. Notebookcheck also wrote about the temporary nature of Update 3's features.

Modding Scene Goes Hard

The Pokemon mod (Pokeshift) is getting genuine press coverage now. GAMINGbible compared it to FireRed and LeafGreen in terms of hype. That's not a small claim. One Reddit post showed off a nostalgic 1998-style hike through the woods with the mod's aesthetic.

A Stardew Valley fishing mod also made waves (pun intended). MSN picked it up, which feels surreal. Hytale's modding tools are clearly resonating with creators who want to port beloved mechanics from other games.

PCGamesN also rounded up the best Hytale mods so far. The list includes everything from quality-of-life tweaks to total conversion projects. If you haven't checked it out yet, it's a solid overview of what the modding community has accomplished in just five weeks.

Kweebec Corner had a great reaction to one particularly technical creation from Golderite. Semi-inverted hadron clusters? In a voxel game? Yeah, people are doing wild stuff.

Community Builds and Creations

Reddit had some genuinely cool build posts this week. Someone rebuilt the forgotten temple to show what it might have looked like before it fell into ruin. Another creator shared a set of industrial containers they modeled for the game.

There was also a Breath of the Wild red bokoblin model someone made, and a hand-drawn version of a custom skin. The creativity is firing on all cylinders.

One thread asked whether Hytale could eventually look like heavily modded Minecraft with shader packs. The consensus seems to be "maybe, but not anytime soon." Graphics overhauls take serious optimization work.

Less seriously, someone's spider approved Hytale by sitting on their keyboard. That's the kind of hard-hitting content we need.

Soundtrack Now Streaming and Downloadable

Oscar Garvin, Hytale's composer, announced that the game's soundtrack is now available on most streaming platforms. Volume 1 and Volume 2 are both up.

Better yet, you can download the entire soundtrack in lossless format from Oscar's site. He's also been streaming his music-making process, including work on a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired piece set in Faerun.

The music is split across two artist profiles on streaming services. One under "Hytale" and one under "Oscar Garvin." Slightly confusing, but at least it's all accessible now.

Press Coverage Roundup

GamingTrend published their early access impressions. PCGamesN wrote a detailed breakdown of the 2026 roadmap and what's coming next. Both pieces are worth reading if you want a broader sense of where the game is headed.

Kweebec Corner asked an interesting question: what would you call this era of Hytale? The early access phase is shaping the game's identity in real time, and it's genuinely unclear what the final form will look like.

Quick Hits

  • One player posted about finding lead ore, which sparked a confused thread about whether it was intentional or a bug.

  • A suggestion to add functional windows that open and close like doors got some traction.

What's Next

Simon's teaser about Part 3 suggests audio changes or new sound systems are coming next week. Oscar's been streaming music work for other projects, so it's possible we'll see more atmospheric or ambient audio layers added to the game.

The modding scene shows no signs of slowing down. Pokemon and Stardew mods are just the start. With how accessible the modding tools are, expect more ambitious projects to pop up in the coming weeks.

The temporary features discussion is probably the most important takeaway from this week. If you're building something or planning long-term server content, keep in mind that mechanics might shift under your feet. Early access is a moving target, and Hypixel's being upfront about that.
