Key Points

  • Update 5 Part 1 dropped on pre-release with more changes coming soon.
  • Second wave of modding contest winners announced, including a Zelda-inspired world.
  • Community recreated Herobrine, built Warhammer 40K content, and someone finished A Link to the Past.
  • Simon's pushing a new feedback system for feature requests.

Update 5 Rolls Out to Pre-Release

While most players got Patch 4 with proximity voice chat and 500+ blocks last week, the pre-release branch got Update 5 Part 1 on March 26th. Simon called it a smaller update while the team works on bigger features.

The real news? Update 5 Part 2 shipped to pre-release on April 2nd. Simon moved the patch notes to a blog format so people can actually find them later instead of scrolling through Discord or Twitter.

He's also teasing "big changes in the works" with cryptic tweets about possibilities. No details yet, but the emoji game is strong.

New Modding Contest Winners

The Hytale New Worlds Modding Contest announced its second batch of mid-contest winners. Five projects made the cut:

  • The Rotspore Bog by plasticfantastic
  • Tritale - Echoes of Hyrule by Cheewawa (yes, a Zelda crossover)
  • Joshi's Lucky Blocks by Joshi234
  • The Aqua Subterrain by NinjaMrcool
  • Wild Weapon (creator not listed in the announcement)

The Zelda mod is getting attention on Reddit too. Someone's nearly finished recreating A Link to the Past in Hytale. These aren't just texture swaps. People are rebuilding entire game worlds with new mechanics.

The contest is showing what Hytale's modding tools can actually do when creators have time to dig in.

Community Builds and Experiments

The subreddit had a busy week. WarTale 40,000 posted a sneak peek of Astartes content. Yes, Warhammer 40K is coming to Hytale. The models look surprisingly accurate for voxel-based work.

Someone recreated Boa Hancock from One Piece. Another player built two versions of an Elven throne and asked which looked better. The community voted. (The second one won, for what it's worth.)

Minecraft players brought Herobrine to Hytale, because of course they did. The internet's favorite creepypasta isn't staying in Minecraft.

Action Combat Mod in Progress

A work-in-progress action combat mod showed up on Reddit. No release date, but the preview looks solid. Hytale's base combat is functional but pretty basic. Mods like this could turn it into something closer to Dark Souls or Monster Hunter.

New Website Features and Feedback Systems

The official Hytale website added a playtime tracker per profile. You can now see how many hours you've sunk into each world or server. Great for bragging rights. Terrible for your productivity stats.

Simon's also pushing a new approach to feedback. He's asking players to use a dedicated space for suggestions instead of scattering them across Discord, Reddit, and Twitter.

He's reading everything. Social media, YouTube comments, in-game reports. Centralizing feedback makes it easier to track what people actually want versus what gets lost in the noise.

April Fools and Random Stuff

Kweebec Corner posted the most predictable April Fools joke: "Hytale just released!" followed immediately by "sike." Points for commitment to the bit, I guess.

They also shared a screenshot with absurd playtime hours. The "no mum I haven't played enough hytale yet" caption hit home for anyone tracking their own hours.

Someone on Reddit demanded Hypixel Studios disable the ability to run with scissors. It's tagged as a censorship request. The comments are exactly what you'd expect.

Another thread asked about max item stack limits. Turns out different items stack to different amounts. Not groundbreaking news, but helpful for inventory management.

Guides and Tutorials

A few tutorial articles popped up this week. Nerd's Chalk explained how to hide armor for players who want the protection without the look. MSN published a world creation guide covering modes, settings, and tips for new players.

PCGamesN posted codes lists for Acecraft and King Legacy. These aren't official Hytale content, but the algorithm keeps confusing them with actual Hytale news.

Audio Work and Side Projects

Onpujam, who does audio work for Hytale, announced a side project. They delivered end-to-end audio for an idle clicker game about spelunking pigeons. Their wife did some voices too.

It's cool seeing Hytale team members work on other projects between updates. Keeps the skills sharp.

What's Next

Simon's hinting at bigger features without saying what they are. Update 5 is rolling out in parts, so expect more patches soon. The modding contest still has entries coming in, and the final winners haven't been announced yet.

The community's building faster than the official updates. That's a good sign for long-term health.

One player summed up the week pretty well: they're obsessed after buying Hytale yesterday. Another asked if they'll ever stop exploring and build a house. Relatable content.
